Scottish Ministers aim to appoint three candidates who have a close affinity with, and understanding of issues impacting on the Highlands and Islands and  opportunities to support economic and community development across the region.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate knowledge and experience of one or more of the following key areas which are of significant importance to HIE

• food and drink
• energy, particularly offshore
• tourism

Applicants are also expected to demonstrate evidence of all of the following:

• knowledge and understanding of the economic, cultural and fiscal issues impacting on the Highlands and Islands
• knowledge and experience of strategy and long-term planning
• communicating, influencing, collaborating and working in partnership
• analysing and scrutinising performance and delivery

Knowledge and experience of Gaelic language and culture and of community wealth building will be advantageous.  

To ensure strong regional presence, ideally at least two of the three successful candidates will live, work, study, or invest in the Highlands and Islands.
