Our annual report and accounts detail where we've invested and the impacts we've made across our region each year.
HIE’s annual report and accounts 2020-21 were laid in the Scottish Parliament on Monday 25 October 2021.
The agency’s activity was dominated by response to the COVID-19 pandemic, both in supporting hard-hit businesses and communities across the region and in continuing to operate effectively following a switch to home-based working for all HIE employees.
HIE invested £92.4m* in the Highlands and Islands, including £23.7m COVID-19 resilience funding, £14.9m of which was additional funding from Scottish Government.
The agency also approved applications from businesses in the region for a further £24.9m in additional COVID-19 support funds administered by Scottish Enterprise.
HIE’s own investments during the year are forecast to support 1,865.5 full time equivalent jobs (FTEs). These are also expected to increase business turnover by £117m, and social economy turnover by £7.9m.
COVID-19 support funding directly administered by HIE helped 873 projects that are expected to support 435.25 additional FTEs.
*A reference on p27 incorrectly uses the figure of £91.7m. We apologise for this error. Other references in the report and accounts record the correct figure of £92.4m.
