Business Skills and Leadership Programme

What is it? 

This programme provides practical leadership support for individuals at different stages of their leadership journey. It combines residential events, online masterclasses, one-to-one coaching or mentoring, peer learning and access to specialist support.

The programme is designed to be accessible for participants across rural, island and remote communities, with online delivery built around key in-person residential sessions.

Who is eligible?

The programme is aimed at individuals working in businesses, social enterprises and community trusts in Argyll and Bute Council area who want to develop their leadership skills and make a positive impact within their organisation, business or community.

Different strands are available depending on experience level, from young and emerging leaders through to experienced leaders, senior managers and owner-directors.

What does the programme include?

  • Residential events to build connections and reflect on progress

  • Online masterclasses and interactive sessions

  • One-to-one coaching or mentoring

  • Peer group coaching and peer learning

  • Inspirational leadership speakers and expert connections

  • Digital leadership resources to support continued learning

Programme strands

Strand 1: Emerging Leaders

A six-month programme for individuals at an early stage in their leadership journey. It is designed to build confidence, self-awareness and core leadership capability through an in-person opening residential, sustained online engagement and a final residential to showcase progress.

Participants will benefit from one-to-one coaching, interactive sessions with guest speakers and a peer “buddy” system alongside sessions on confident leadership decision making, influencing and strategy.

Strand 2: Leadership for Growth

A 12-month programme for experienced leaders, senior managers and owner-directors who shape strategic direction and oversee organisational performance. The programme opens and closes with a two-day residential and includes 10 online sessions focused on areas such as strategic thinking, managing change and leading growth.

Participants will work on their own strategic challenge or growth opportunity throughout the programme, with support from specialists who can help progress business priorities.

Strand 3: Leadership Mentoring

A 12-month structured and flexible one-to-one mentoring programme. It includes an initial diagnostic, seven tailored deep-dive sessions and a final review to reflect on learning and identify next steps.

Participants are matched with mentors, coaches and sector specialists from a network of more than 100 experienced professionals. Support materials include a mentee handbook and learning log with oversight from a dedicated Mentor Manager.
