I’m from North Lochs in the Isle of Lewis where I still live today.

I was fortunate enough to have Gaelic Medium Education both at primary and secondary school. After leaving school I went to study Gaelic at Glasgow University. Like many others, lockdown meant I moved home for my final year. I am now a director of the company, ASTAR which has a team of six working to deliver many varied types of projects throughout the year.

I am lucky that I have the opportunity to speak Gaelic with family, friends, at work agus in the community.

It’s difficult to describe in a few words the opportunities that are available to us all as Gaelic speakers and learners.

It’s important that we recognise the benefits we gain from the language not least in terms of social, cultural and career opportunities. Keep speaking and learning the language and take the opportunities when they come.

I think it does not matter who you are or what you do, having Gaelic just adds to it.  Have you ever heard anyone say “I wish I didn’t speak Gaelic”?
