Clean power and community benefits – a conversation with Chris Stark

Published 26/05/2025 by Elain MacRae 1 min read

In May, we welcomed Chris Stark, who is leading the UK Government’s Mission for Clean Power by 2030 at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) to the Highlands and Islands.

During his visit, Chris joined us for a short VLOG with our Head of Energy, Elain MacRae, to talk about an important question facing our region: how can we make sure local communities benefit from the clean energy revolution happening all around us?

See our short film where we cover big topics like why energy prices don’t always reflect how close we are to the source, what needs to change in the market to share the benefits more fairly, and how we can make the most of the huge amount of renewable power we’re already generating - often more than the grid can handle.

It’s a great watch for anyone interested in how the clean energy transition can be shaped to support local people and places - and why the Highlands and Islands are central to the UK’s clean power future.
