Angus Campbell joined the board of HIE in September 2018 and also chairs the Risk and Assurance Committee.

Angus was appointed interim chair of the HIE board on 1 August 2025.

On 24 October 2025, the Scottish Government announced he would become chair of HIE from 1 November 2025.

Personal profile

Angus Campbell is a local businessman and employer in Lewis with his own business since 1996, employing 30 people.

He has 18 years’ experience as a councillor, many as Leader. Angus has strong knowledge of socio-economic issues across the Highlands and Islands and has years of experience of funding issues, including European funding and enabling community ownership.

External positions 

Angus has a commitment to Gaelic language and culture. He is chair of the Ferries Community Board, Clyde and Hebrides.
