Ri Cruden, established 20 years ago by Ian Cruden and now led by brothers Rory and Callum, has built its reputation on delivering innovative renewable energy solutions across Scotland, from ferry terminals to major infrastructure projects.
The company has invested £311,000 to revamp part of its premises into a dedicated off-site fabrication workshop, with HIE contributing up to £77,805 toward the project.
The upgraded facility includes a space saving vertical carousel machine, a robot welding machine, an automatic bandsaw and energy-efficient systems powered by the site’s existing solar panels and battery storage. Together, these investments are expected to:
More than a quarter of Ri Cruden’s workforce are apprentices. The new workshop will allow them to gain skills in a real-world but controlled environment, helping the business train the next generation of tradespeople locally while contributing to the region’s green economy.
Rory Cruden, Ri Cruden managing director, said:
“This project is a true example of our company's values. We've always had a core commitment to nurturing the next generation of talent, and to be able to do so while making a substantial leap forward in our sustainability impact through the use of technology is an incredible achievement.
“We are immensely grateful for the invaluable support from HIE that helped turn this vision into a reality. Their partnership has been crucial in bringing this project to life, and we are confident that the outcomes from this facility will not only meet but exceed our expectations. All our team are excited to see the positive change it will bring, both for our business and for the wider community.”
HIE’s Brian Robson, said: “This project is intended to help the business be more efficient while enhancing their overall green credentials, seen as important to them given the industry in which they operate. Renewable energy is an expanding sector that offers many new opportunities for businesses in the region. Supporting firms like Ri Cruden to modernise and grow helps accelerate our journey to net zero. It is important that we help firms capitalise on these opportunities.”
