Campus developer, HIE, has sold a 3.21 acre development plot to Global, where they will build a state-of-the-art head office next to the Life Sciences Innovation Centre (LSIC) and adjacent to UHI Inverness College.
It lies within the development boundary of the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport and the sale has been confirmed as in keeping with the Green Freeport company’s objectives.
The building will be a three-storey office building of similar size to LSIC, with parking for 80 cars.
The plot sale forms part of HIE’s second phase of development at Inverness Campus, where the agency prepares serviced plots for sale to companies to develop according to their own needs.
Eligible sectors are renewable energy technologies, life sciences, marine technology, and other technology and advanced engineering.
Global already had a presence on the campus, with Global Infrastructure Limited having taken office space in Aurora House earlier this year.
HIE has been developing Inverness Campus since 2007 with construction starting in 2013 and the formal opening in 2015. The site has since grown into a world-class business location and is already home to 20 commercial enterprises as well as organisations such as UHI, SRUC, NHS Highland and HIE.
Charlie Lawrance, HIE’s head of property and infrastructure, said:
“Global is a major operator in renewable energy technologies, particularly offshore wind, and a significant employer in the region. The company’s expansion requires a new head office to accommodate additional jobs. It’s a great fit for Inverness Campus and for the Inverness and Cromarty Green Freeport. We very much look forward to seeing the new building develop and welcoming new people onto the campus.”
Global, formerly, Global Energy Group and led by Roy Macgregor has rebranded. Its group companies, Global Port Services, Global Crane Services, Global Wind Projects, Global Infrastructure and Global Power Services (previously Approved Power Services) – will each refresh their branding to align with the new corporate identity.
Roy MacGregor, Chairman of Global; commented: “We are delighted to be starting this next phase of the Global journey. Investment in our new head office within the Inverness Campus will allow for the much-needed space for us to bring a presence from a number of our businesses under one roof, allowing for collaboration and further growth. We can’t wait to see the construction develop and very much look forward to moving it next year”.
