Published: 31/08/2018

Nine food and drink businesses from the Highlands and Islands displayed their products at the Speciality Fine Food Fair in London on 2-4 September.

Taking place at the Olympia Exhibition Centre during Scotland Food and Drink Fortnight, the trade show saw 700 exhibitors showing their latest offerings to trade buyers from the UK and overseas among the 10,000 visitors to the fair.

Exhibitors from the region displayed their products at the Scotland Food and Drink Pavilion. From the region, there were Cairngorm Brewery, Charles Macleod, Cullisse, Gordon Castle, Great Glen Charcuterie, Stag Bakeries, Thule Ventus, Walkers and Wild Thyme Spirits all looking to attract new buyers.

Elaine Jamieson, head of food and drink at HIE, said: “The Speciality Fine Food Fair offers ambitious businesses in the Highlands and Islands a very real opportunity to get into new markets and win more orders. Our exhibitors represented a range of companies from long-established to recent start-ups who all use innovative skills in the creation of their products. The speciality market is key for the growth of our region’s food and drink industry and the show has proved a successful outlet for our producers in the past.

“As well as exposure to buyers, the event is a great opportunity to see what other artisan producers are bringing to market and to attend informative sessions to learn about the next big thing in key product categories. They can also hear the experiences of retail experts and small business owners who have overcome the hurdles in the fast-paced food and drink world.”

Charles Macdonald, owner of Stag Bakeries Ltd, said: “We attend the Speciality Fine Food Fair every year as it provides a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our products and raise awareness of the Stag Bakeries brand. It has provided us with a unique platform to gain new customers all over the UK and beyond and we were excited to be there again this year. It was pleasing to see so many other great companies from the region also attending.”
