Visitor pressures and visitor management

Delivered in partnership with the Scottish Government, the Islands Community Tourism Learning and Networking Programme is about supporting island communities to develop sustainable, community-led tourism.

This session's theme is about exploring and understanding current tensions and ways to manage and influence visitors to ensure tourism works for our island, us and them.

This session will cover:

  • Exploring why tensions may exist

  • Understanding different types of visitor behaviours and how to manage them

  • Managing visitor expectations before and during a visit

  • Explaining the concept of visitor management and the role of infrastructure

  • Introducing how to influence visitor behaviours using ‘nudge’ techniques

The National Islands Plan highlights that islands are central to our identity as a nation and a core part of Scotland's international image.
