Understanding our visitors and reaching the right markets

Delivered in partnership with the Scottish Government, the Islands Community Tourism Learning and Networking Programme is about supporting island communities to develop sustainable, community-led tourism.

This session's theme is about understanding current and potential visitors, identifying the markets that best align with our island values, assets and community capacity and understanding the importance of our online presence.

This session will cover:

  • Appraising our current visitor profile

  • Defining the types of visitors, behaviours and patterns that best fit our island circumstances

  • Identifying new markets and how to reach, appeal to and influence them?

  • Appraising and improving our online presence

  • Understanding the benefits and costs of third-party digital and booking platforms

The National Islands Plan highlights that islands are central to our identity as a nation and a core part of Scotland's international image.
