Tourism as a force for good: Community, climate and nature

Delivered in partnership with the Scottish Government, the Islands Community Tourism Training Programme is about supporting island communities to develop sustainable, community-led tourism.

The theme of day is about resilient island tourism that strengthens our communities, supports local climate action and helps protect and enhance island, coastal and marine environments.

This learning session will cover:

  • Principles of resilient island tourism

  • Engaging visitors in environmental initiatives

  • Community benefit and retaining value locally

  • Circular economies in tourism

  • Green tourism enterprise

  • Voluntourism

The National Islands Plan highlight that islands are central to our identity as a nation and a core part of Scotland's international image.
