Our island home as a host destination

Delivered in partnership with the Scottish Government, the Islands Community Tourism Training Programme is about supporting island communities to develop sustainable, community-led tourism.

The theme of day is about what is and isn’t working and what could be done differently or better to help make our island an even better place to live, work and visit.

This learning session will cover:

  • Understanding destination competence and our capacity and capability as an island destination

  • Consider the different aspects of being a competent destination and what is within the gift of the community

  • Exploring why tensions exist and how to address these as a community

  • Identifying local community tourism enterprise opportunities and add-ons to existing activity

The National Islands Plan highlight that islands are central to our identity as a nation and a core part of Scotland's international image.
