Foundations of community tourism

Delivered in partnership with the Scottish Government, the Islands Community Tourism Training Programme is about supporting island communities to develop sustainable, community-led tourism.

This session's theme is around contextualising tourism in Scotland and in our island groupings as well as exploring the foundations of community led and regenerative tourism.

We'll split the learning session up into the following sections:

  • Tourism today and its value globally, nationally and regionally

  • Tourism policy and wider policy agendas – national, regional and local

  • Contextualising tourism in each of the Scottish island groupings

  • The growth of community led and regenerative tourism

The National Islands Plan highlight that islands are central to our identity as a nation and a core part of Scotland's international image.
