Developing memorable and authentic island experiences

Delivered in partnership with the Scottish Government, the Islands Community Tourism Learning and Networking Programme is about supporting island communities to develop sustainable, community-led tourism.

This session's theme is about creating viable visitor experiences that celebrate our sense of place, enable visitors to feel welcome and involved, stimulate business and job opportunities and derive robust income streams.

This session will cover:

  • Turning our assets into experiences – community led and collaborative experience design

  • Sharing examples of community led tours, events, experiences and items to buy

  • Introducing the principles of bookable products, pricing and effective cancellation policies

  • Exploring online sales and booking platforms

  • Understanding the benefits and costs of working with the travel trade and tour companies

The National Islands Plan highlights that islands are central to our identity as a nation and a core part of Scotland's international image.
