Celebrating our sense of place, culture and island identity

Delivered in partnership with the Scottish Government, the Islands Community Tourism Training Programme is about supporting island communities to develop sustainable, community-led tourism.

The theme of day is about what differentiates us as the foundation to understanding our ‘place brand’ and how we bring this to life for visitors and build community cohesion.

This learning session will cover:

  • ‘To see ourselves as others see us’

  • Evaluating our sense of place and what has made our community what it is today

  • Defining our cultural identity and safeguarding our cultural integrity

  • Community led place branding and storytelling

The National Islands Plan highlight that islands are central to our identity as a nation and a core part of Scotland's international image.
