Greening community assets fund

Thank you for your interest in this fund. Registrations for expressions of interest are now closed. We will be in touch with those who have already completed the form about next steps.

Reduce the carbon impact of your community building

Community organisations and social enterprises interested in heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures for community buildings in the Highlands and Islands may be eligible for funding.

What it is?

The Greening Community Assets Fund is a one off, competitive fund for communities to invest in heat decarbonisation and energy efficiency measures for community-owned and managed buildings. It could help you reduce the carbon footprint of local village halls, community centres, community-owned shops, etc.

The fund is being delivered in partnership with Local Energy Scotland who deliver CARES (Community and Renewable Energy Scheme) on behalf of the Scottish Government.

What's eligible?

We're looking for expressions of interest from projects in the region that can deliver strong, low carbon outcomes.

Funding can be up to 90% of total costs and can be used as match-funding to existing awards from other sources. We anticipate grants up to a normal maximum of £30,000, applications over this may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

We are unable to assist with projects already started, or where an irrevocable legal commitment has been entered into before the date of your application to HIE.

We will require quotes for the work to be undertaken if invited to full application.

Eligible activities

  • Energy efficiency: Measures such as LED light fittings, new windows, insulation or water reducing devices for a village hall, community centre, community-owned shop, etc.
  • Renewables: We may be able to contribute to the costs of a CARES approved Let’s do Net Zero Community Building project where the measures to be match funded by HIE haven’t been installed.
