HIE’s new Graduate Support Programme is open to all SMEs and social enterprises based in the Highlands and Islands. The programme aims to assist graduates into employment and provide them with much needed experience to advance their careers in the Highlands and Islands, and to support organisations most significantly affected by COVID-19 to drive innovation and recovery.

Placement information

  • Placements are to be up to 12 months in duration.
  • You should have a graduate already identified or be able to recruit and appoint a graduate (HIE will not carry out the recruitment on your behalf).
  • Candidates should have graduated within the last four years. The minimum qualification accepted will be an HNC, but preferably an HND, degree or postgraduate degree.
  • There is no age limit that applies to the graduate.
  • Some remote working may be considered provided the graduate is based in the Highlands and Islands area.
  • Placements should be specific graduate level roles, aimed at helping with Covid recovery.
  • There can be a maximum of two placements per organisation, provided they are unique roles with different impacts and outcomes.
  • As part of the Programme, HIE will work with you to review your Fair Work practices and develop an action plan for improvement where necessary.

Financial Support

If your application is successful, HIE will support a percentage of the graduate’s salary. The salary range supported is between £20,000 to £28,000. No other direct or indirect costs will be supported through this programme (e.g. pension contributions, equipment costs). The remaining project funding you require to support this placement cannot be sourced from other HIE or European funding, or any other alternative public funding.
