What is it?

Go Global is a grant of up to £5000 to help new exports get started, or help existing exporters to enter a new market or export a new product. 

Who can apply?

  • Small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs*) based in the Highlands and Islands
  • New or existing exporters looking to expand into new markets or export a new product.

Before making an application, businesses should be working with an Scottish Development International (SDI) export adviser.

What can the grant be used for?

The go global grant can support business to business activity including:

  • Attending an international trade show – to exhibit or walk the floor with a view to exhibiting in the future, to undertake research or understand the competition in the market.
  • Undertaking market visits – to launch a product/service, undertake research, meet with potential buyers or in-market experts
  • Preparing products or services – support for translation services, design of promotional material, adaptation of existing product for new market

If successful, the Go Global grant will be paid in arrears once the activity has taken place, so the business must be in a position to finance the whole project upfront and claim the grant once all costs have been paid.


  • Minimum grant of £850 up to a maximum of £5,000
  • Activity must take place before the 31 December 2020
  • Funding will support business to business activity
  • Full eligibility criteria will be discussed with the Export Adviser

*SMEs (Small to medium sized businesses with fewer than 250 employees and a turnover of less than €50m or a balance sheet of less than €43m and is an independent enterprise. (An independent enterprise has no more than 25% of the capital or voting rights are owned by one or more enterprises which fall outside the SME definition.)
