BOARD HEALTH CHECK, SKILLS AND TRAINING PROGRAMME

This programme is designed to help the boards of community organisations understand and gain confidence in delivering their roles, and engaging and becoming more sustainable as they support their communities.

What is it?

The Board Health check, Skills and Training programme aims to support the boards of community groups, charities, social enterprises, and voluntary organisations. It’ll give you, and your community organisation, the knowledge and leadership skills you’ll need to influence, plan and manage sustainable recovery for the benefit of your community as we emerge from the pandemic.

The programme is delivered online and over the phone by specialists from The Impact Hub, Inverness. There is no cost to your Board to take part.

Places are limited and competitive – so we are looking for forward thinking and ambitious boards, who can demonstrate that their work delivers benefits to their communities. For the programme to be successful you need to demonstrate buy-in from your whole board, so please ensure your team is committed to taking part before applying.

What you can expect

If your application is successful our specialists will start with an assessment of your board through a paper review, skills questionnaire and a telephone interview. This will be followed up with an action plan and a workshop session to work through the details.

Time commitment of this programme:

  • Watch the ‘What is governance?’ video - 10mins
  • Complete an online skills questionnaire - 20-30mins
  • Telephone interview (only a selection of board members on each board) - 1hr
  • Action plan session - 1.5hrs

Total time commitment approx. 3hrs

Successful applicants should note the following:

  • Your application contact must be a board member.
  • Board members are committing to complete the skills assessment.
  • Board members are committing to attend the governance workshop.
  • Board members are committing to participating in training requirements as highlighted in the training plan.
  • You are applying for a programme with limited places, it is not guaranteed until confirmed.

The Governance training that our Board participated in was incredibly helpful. The guidance that was provided was completely tailor-made to our organisation.
