Paid, project-based placements of up to 12 months for graduates and students

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all recruitment for ScotGrad placements is currently on hold. Please note: future placements will be advertised on this page as the ScotGrad website is no longer active.

What is it?

Established in 2013, ScotGrad is a graduate and student placement programme operated across the Highlands and Islands by HIE, part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Graduate placements are fixed-term jobs designed to give you your first piece of graduate-level work experience. Through ScotGrad, you can join one of the region’s growing businesses or social enterprises and complete a placement of up to 12 months.

You’ll gain real-world experience working on a defined project, where you will make a significant impact on a small or medium-sized organisation. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop your existing skills and knowledge, whilst working on a project from start to finish. A four-day residential training course, designed to sharpen your business skills so you can make the most of your placement, is included at no cost for all successful applicants.

Many placements lead to continued employment, and 94% of graduates on our programme progress to graduate-level outcomes after their placement. All our placements offer a minimum salary of £18,000, or the pro-rata equivalent.
