Head of net zero transition

We’re looking for a committed individual to ensure that HIE and our region play a pivotal role in accelerating a just transition to net zero for the benefit of our economy and communities.

Head of net zero transition

  • Location: Currently homeworking, with the option to adopt a hybrid style of working based on individual role, style, and preference when HIE offices fully re-open. 
  • HIE has offices across the Highlands and Islands; flexibility on the HIE office location will be considered.
  • Starting salary £44,987 per annum. Potential salary progression to £53,690 per annum.
  • Excellent benefits package.
  • Permanent, full-time, 35 hours per week.

We're looking for an experienced, proactive, and committed individual to ensure that HIE and the Highlands and Islands play a pivotal role in accelerating and securing a just transition to net zero for the benefit of our economy and communities.

The role

As a key member of our energy transition and net zero team, you’ll:

  1. Lead and co-ordinate a net zero programme to drive forward HIE’s focus on embedding net zero principles within organisational activities.
  2. Provide intelligence and evidence on the impact of HIE’s activities.
  3. Seek to enhance our net zero products and services for clients.
  4. Lead on heat decarbonisation activity, working closely with colleagues and external partners.
  5. Support colleagues with wider net zero activity relating to biodiversity, natural capital (land and marine based), circular economy, and carbon sequestration.
  6. Engage with innovation and sector colleagues on specific sector decarbonisation plans.
  7. Influence favourable policy and investment conditions for the Highlands and Islands.
  8. Ensure changes to net zero policy legislation are communicated clearly and quickly to internal colleagues.
  9. Actively contribute to the management of the energy transition and net zero team and wider Communities & Place directorate.

The person

It’s essential that you are a proven leader who can quickly build strong working relationships with senior managers, colleagues across the organisation and HIE’s external partners and stakeholders, locally and nationally.

You’ll also be a strategic thinker and inspiring leader with a hands-on approach, with the ability to influence and help deliver a move to net zero within HIE, while also shaping the wider net zero agenda at local, regional, and national level in line with HIE’s economic and community development remit.
