Financial Accountant

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Financial Accountant to join our Financial Services team in Inverness.

The Role

Starting salary: £28,386 per annum, excellent benefits package. Potential future salary progression from £28,386 to £32,365 per annum

Working hours: 35 hours per week

Location: Inverness

As part of this job you’ll:

  • work closely with the Head of Financial Services to ensure that HIE’s Annual Accounts are accurate and complete in advance of annual audit
  • provide technical advice to internal colleagues in relation to changes in accounting standards and employment tax compliance
  • be responsible for the monthly reconciliation process and control the financial procedures and tax manuals
  • work with the Head of Financial Services to ensure tax compliance for HIE and its subsidiaries and joint arrangements
  • provide guidance and advice to HIE staff so they understand and adhere to VAT compliance procedures
  • manage strong working relationships with both internal and external audit, ensuring any action from audit reviews are implemented efficiently and effectively
  • assist in the set-up of a professional work group for public bodies to share knowledge on a variety of technical accounting development areas such as Government Financial Reporting, Tax and Accounting Standards
  • undertake financial reviews of companies tendering for work with HIE as appropriate
  • assist in the review and submission of Whole Government Accounts to Scottish Government and HM Treasury
  • be a key member of the Financial Services team, providing training and assistance to less experienced colleagues and;
  • receive funding support from HIE to obtain a professional financial qualification from a recognised accounting body, e.g. CIMA, CIPFA, ACCA.

 

The person

It’s essential that you are an experienced and proactive team player with a track record in the preparation of Annual Accounts.

You’ll have experience of Tax application and processes and be adept at building strong working relationships with internal and external audit.

You’ll also have proven technical skills, with the ability to understand and apply complex financial legislation.   Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for this role.

Previous experience of working in public sector accounting with focus on Annual Accounts preparation, presentation and audit would be beneficial.
