He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, a past Member of Court at the University of the Highlands and Islands and a former Member of the David Hume Institute. Donald is a board member of Interface and the Social Growth Fund – the joint venture between the Big Lottery and Social Investment Scotland. He is currently chair of the Water Industry Commission for Scotland. Donald was awarded an OBE in 2011 for services to Business and Rural Development.
Donald commented: “I’m passionate about Scotland’s economic development, particularly in my home area. There has never been a more exciting time to be involved in the Highlands and Islands economy. The digital transformation under way is the equivalent of the hydro projects of 60 years ago. There has been remarkable progress since I was growing up on the Black Isle, not least in the availability of higher education, improvements in roads and transport, and a much broader range of career opportunities.
