What time is it? 1

Learning to tell the time in Gaelic is fairly straightforward once you get the hang of it! In this module you can listen to the core phrases for telling the time and try them out yourself.

Before we get started on the clock, here are some useful phrases related to time:

Madainn mhath.	Good morning.

Feasgar math.	Good afternoon./Good evening.

an-diugh	today

an-dè	yesterday

a-maireach	tomorrow

a-raoir	last night

a-nochd	tonight

an ath-oidhche	tomorrow night

uair	an hour (Use when talking about 1 or 2 hours, or 1 o’clock & 2 o’clock.)

uairean	hours plural of hour (Use when talking about 3+ hours, or 3 o’clock onwards.)

It is always important to be able to ask what the time is in any language. Listen to the following phrases and repeat them:

Dè an uair a tha e?	What time is it?

Tha e...	It is...

aon uair deug.	11 o’clock. (Gaelic puts the hour between the words for the unit and the ten.)

Tha e aon uair deug.	It is 11 o’clock
