These pages and links outline HIE's involvement in transport policy and development for the region.

The Highlands and Islands of Scotland is well-served by road, rail and air services to the major UK cities including London, Edinburgh, Manchester and Birmingham.

Regular air and ferry services provide onward connections throughout the area - including to all the major island groups.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise continually works with key partners, including the Scottish Executive and the area's local authorities. We are supporting the work of the three Regional Transport Partnerships that cover our area (HITRANS, Shetland Transport Partnership and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport) - helping develop and improve the region's transport infrastructure and services.

The following pages will give you some insight into the types of work we are undertaking, and include a number of reports and other documents that can be downloaded.
