This downloadable report provides a baseline of transport provision, patronage and funding across the Highlands and Islands region.

The research for this report has covered air, ferry, bus and rail service provision in the Highlands and Islands and provides patronage data for air, ferry and rail services. The work also looked at volumes of freight carried on air, rail and ferry services, volumes of vehicular traffic at key points on the road network and fuel costs in the Highlands and Islands.

The final section of this report provides a summary of funding and expenditure in the Highlands and Islands region for transport services and infrastructure. This includes Scottish Executive and European funding sources as well as local authority revenue and capital expenditure on public transport and local roads.
