Green tourism

Green tourism
Sustainable tourism, eco-tourism, Green tourism. There are many labels, but whatever you prefer to call it, the definition remains the same: low impact, environmentally-friendly tourism that cherishes, not destroys.

As a market strategy, sustainable Green tourism makes eminent sense for the long term, and taps into what is a growing demand for holidays that leave the smallest  possible 'footprint' on the environment and local communities*. In an age where concern and scientific evidence grows daily about global warming and the human race's generally adverse effects on the planet, the Green sustainable environmentally-aware tourist can only increase in number.

But what does Green tourism mean in practical terms for tourism businesses? What need they do to be 'Green', and who should they contact to find out more?

These questions and more can be best answered by VisitScotland's Sustainable Tourism Unit.  They are the experts and have led the drive to make Scottish tourism more environmentally-friendly for over 10 years.

Working with a range of partners from the National Trust for Scotland to the Enterprise Networks, the Sustainable Tourism Unit have built up a wide range of Green tourism expertise and contacts. So whether it’s a query about Green tourism in Scotland or an enquiry about eco-friendly accommodation get in touch with Sandy Dear, based in Visitscotland’s Inverness office or visit their website
