There are exciting opportunities available for community groups developing their own renewable energy projects. Micro renewable energy projects, larger scale wind farms, wood fuelled district heating plants, and wind powered electric transport are all examples of existing community owned schemes. They help reduce energy costs, can bring cash into communities, reduce Scotland's greenhouse gas emissions and establish the country as a leader in renewable energy development.
Community Energy Scotland is a Scotland-wide body which provides support, advice and, in some cases, funding for renewable energy projects through a range of programmes. It receives funding from both the Scottish Government and HIE for its work.
It had its origins in The Highlands and Islands Community Energy Company, which helped hundreds of community groups across our region.
