What does it offer? Skillseekers helps young people train for a Vocational Qualification. Vocational Qualifications (VQs) are nationally recognised qualifications designed by industry for industry. They are highly practical qualifications, which give people the skills that are needed to do the job. Training and assessments takes place in the workplace with additional training, if required, being in a college or with a training provider.
Key benefits for employers. Training to meet your company's needs and set to industry standards. Improved quality of a young person's skills. Trainees get a greater stake in their personal development, which enhances their ability to accept responsibility - a key priority for many employers.
Who will organise the training? You, as the employer, will be responsible for organising the training, though probably with the help of a training provider or college. They will agree a training plan with you and the young person which will give details of the VQ they are working towards. This will show the training involved, including what time will be spent in the workplace and college or training centre. The agreed training plan will also tell you how long the training will last. This is normally around two years - more if higher VQ levels are required - but the plan is flexible and can be changed as things progress.
How do I get involved? Employers can contact their local Careers Scotland office about all aspects of becoming involved in the Skillseekers programme. To find your nearest office, just call 0845 8 502 502. |
