Community Action Grants
Helping to develop communities' assets, culture and heritageIntroductionThe Community Action Grants scheme has three main aims:
What is covered?Funding is available to community groups for a wide variety of projects. Priority will be given to projects involving young people and those which are in a fragile area, as will those which reinforce economic development and improve opportunities for recreation, community interaction and the expression of local culture. Who can apply?Fully constituted community groups can apply. They must supply a copy of their written constitution and membership of their group must be open to the whole community. The scheme is not designed for individuals nor for groups which trade for profit. Assistance availableSALE's annual Community Action Grant budget is normally in the region of £40,000 to assist at least 15 projects. The normal level of grant offered is 25 - 30% of the total eligible project costs. A higher percentage may be granted to projects in fragile areas. The minimum grant awarded is £100 and the maximum normally £20,000. Potential applicants must approach all the appropriate local and national statutory authorities in the first instance (e.g. Highland Council). Contributions from the National Lottery will be treated as private funds. The maximun of total public funding input to any one project will not exceed 66%. SALE assistance is geared towards any potential shortfall in the project costs. Projects must not start before funding is approved.
