Modern Apprenticeships
Our Modern Apprenticeships (MAPPs) provide frameworks for training people to a high standard in the workplace. All the frameworks have been fine-tuned by the relevant industries, so they involve all the skills and training a person needs to become a craftsman, technician or manager in that area of work.
A wide range of MAPP's are available to everyone who'd like to work towards and SVQ at Level 3.
They include not only the traditional trades but also many areas of modern working life. MAPP's, are mainly workplace-based but, in addition to on-the-job learning, they include some classroom-based study. This off-the-job learning helps build on the practical experience gained and also introduces other subjects which are about general employability and include core skills. These core skills include problem solving, communication, numeracy, information technology and working with others.
Skillseekers
Skillseekers is also mainly a workplace-based training programme. It leads to Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) and allows young people aged sixteen to twenty-four to earn a wage while they learn. At the same time, participants get valuable work experience.
In Skillseekers the young person is employed and the going rate for the job is paid by the employer. Young people usually aim to achieve an SVQ at Level 2. Training for a Level ll VQ is usually takes between 9 months and two years to achieve.
