HIE Skye and Wester Ross combines its three main activities, growing businesses, developing skills, and strengthening communities, in one programme, Investors in People.

By assisting organisations to improve their planning, examine their communications, focus their training, and evaluate these activities, improvements are realised in small and large businesses in all sectors, voluntary organisations, schools, and community groups, i.e. any organisation which uses people to achieve its aims.

The standard expected is defined and assessed by an external body, Investors in People Scotland, to ensure consistency throughout the country. Help to achieve this standard is given through a local advisory service which is free to all those involved through financial support from the European Social Fund and from HIE Skye & Wester Ross own funds. The benefits that organisations gain are usually better planning, improved communications, more focused and better motivated staff, and good review systems for the important aspects of their operations.

HIE Skye & Wester Ross also supports an initiative originated by the European Foundation for Quality Management, whereby organisations use a self-assessment Business Excellence Model to look at all their activities and work out together how the operations can be improved. This simple and effective tool allows any organisation to review its activities effectively and support is again provided at no cost to the organisation through HIE Skye & Wester Ross's own funds and through the European Social Fund
