HIE Skye and Wester Ross operates an Environmental Renewal programme which can fund or assist with a wide variety of projects both public and private which directly address environmental deterioration in land and buildings, or which brings derelict/damaged land and buildings back into economic use.

This can include improvement of access to sites of environmental, historic or natural interest; repair of damage to such sites; footpaths; interpretation facilities for visitors. It can also include repair or improvement to historic structures or community facilities eg; slipways, quays or jetties. It can also encompass abnormal site development costs for projects with particular economic or community benefits eg; affordable housing in remote areas, community facilities, major infrastructural projects.

HIE Skye and Wester Ross assistance is usually part of an overall funding package involving other public and private funders. Wider economic and social benefit is an important criteria for HIE Skye & Wester Ross involvement, and particular consideration is given to responsibility for future maintenance and public use/access where appropriate.
