1 INTRODUCTION
1.1 The Highland Council and HIE Skye and Wester Ross worked together with other public and voluntary sector bodies represented in the area to position Skye and Lochalsh to make best use of the European Structural Funds. At the end of March 1999 the European Council of Ministers agreed to a £200M package for the Highlands and Islands over the period 2000 to 2006 to extend the current Objective One Programme. Following several meetings, this Strategy has been agreed by the local partners as the basis for supporting and developing projects which address the economic and social priorities of Skye and Lochalsh, and which will be brought forward over this next programme period to secure financial assistance from the Structural Funds.
