Skills for individuals

What help is available?
If you are registered unemployed you may be eligible for funding under the Individual Skills Grant or the Training for Work schemes. These schemes are specifically focused on helping you find work or expand your employment opportunities.

You are strongly urged to seek careers advice through our colleagues in Careers Scotland before approaching HIE Shetland.

If you have recently been made redundant, we can co-ordinate a range of services and funding to help you get a new job as soon as possible.

Please note that the following training is NOT eligible

o        Full-time education courses

o        Higher education courses

o        Training for HGV, PSV or other driving related courses

o        Offshore survival courses

o        Diving courses

Who can apply?
Any registered unemployed person resident in Shetland aged 25 or over.

How much will I get?
Our assistance is discretionary, and is assessed on a case by case basis.

How long does it take?
We aim to process your application as quickly as possible. However, the time taken often depends on the information you are able to provide us with. The sooner you give us the information, the quicker we can help you.
