Scotland is the third largest salmon farming nation in the world, currently producing some 10 per cent of global farmed Atlantic salmon.

The Scottish salmon farming industry is an important contributor to the Scottish economy, both in terms of the jobs that it generates and of the location of these jobs in rural areas.

Based on data from the Fisheries Research Services Annual Survey of 2003, the industry provided some 330 jobs in smolt production and 1,140 in salmon ongrowing.

The downloadable report, here right, provides an up-to-date, (December 2005) in-depth summary of  industry trends.
