Skills Development Scotland
Careers Scotland Rock School 2006

What’s Rock School all about?

It’s an opportunity for young people to learn about what it’s like to be a musician and discover the skills needed to make it in the music industry.

Over the two or three days of each Rock School there is a wide range of workshops led by local musicians in topics such as:

Each Rock School climaxes in a showcase event where friends, family, supporters and locals can attend to hear the bands playing live.

Who’s it for?

Any young people aged over 14, who have an interest in music and want inspiration, information and motivation to take their interest further. Young people who want to attend don’t need to be in a band or a proficient musician but simply have the desire to get involved.

So whether that’s playing, singing, behind the scenes or doing the technical side of things, then Rock School is for you.

Who are the musicians / tutors working on the 2006 events?

Why is Careers Scotland running Rock School?

In order to provide any opportunity for young people to realise their full potential and recognise that skills they develop through music can be used throughout their own unique career path – working together, communicating and working to deadlines are some examples. Developing and being aware of transferable skills is critical in being successful in both life and work.

The rock schools also highlight the diversity of jobs available in the music and creative industries.

They're also about motivating and inspiring the next generation of musicians in the Highlands and Islands.
