Performance of the A9 and A96 Roads
|
A survey commissioned by HIE and delivered in January 2007, detailed a number of aspects of the performance of the A9 between Perth and Inverness and the A96 between Aberdeen and Inverness. The survey was carried out as part of a broad ranging research programme to determine the future transport investment priorities for the region. The survey data was collected between November 2005 and November 2006 and was analysed to evaluate the routes' performance in terms of journey times, vehicle platooning and vehicle speeds. The research concluded that journey times on these routes are not particularly unpredictible and that platooning leads to longer overall journey times on a reasonably consistant basis. Speed ranged from 54mph to 66mph on dual carriageway sections and below 60mph on single carriageway sections on the A9 and the average speed on the A96 was 44mph. Traffic on the A96 is not as seasonal as the traffic on the A9. The full report is available to download in Acrobat pdf format. |
