TRAINING FOR WORK IN ORKNEY - MALCOLM NORQUAY
Realising that because of a health problem he could no longer work in fish farming, Malcolm went along to an open day at Jobcentre Plus to find out what other opportunities were available to him. The idea of knowing how computers worked and being able to fix them appealed to Malcolm and he decided that the I T practitioners course at Grainshore Training Centre was what he would like to do. At first Malcolm found it quite difficult to cope with learning so much new information but he persevered and soon things began to make more sense and he realised that he was enjoying it. Going on placement to a local IT department and school gave Malcolm the opportunity to put into practice his new skills and he was given excellent reviews from both. Back at Grainshore Malcolm continued with the course, passing A+ an installation and testing unit and a customer support unit. He was very proud to become the first locally trained person to achieve a level 2 certificate for IT practitioners in Orkney. Since leaving Training for Work Malcolm has been working at a local school as an IT technician. Support Training
