Develop your skills
Orcadians are typically very well qualified, and the islands actually top the list for educational attainment in Scotland - 97.8% of 19 year olds have Level 2 qualifications - that is 5 Standard Grades or Level 2 SVQs. Similarly, our workforce is very well trained, with Orkney businesses keen to develop training programmes which suit them and their staff. Companies in the food processing and the manufacturing sectors lead the way in developing and undertaking training programmes which ensure that their staff can meet the challenges of today's increasingly competitive environment. The success of the Investors in People award in Orkney is evidence of the value local businesses place in their staff, their most valuable asset. HIE Orkney can assist with a wide range of training projects from short training courses that will help unemployed people to find work, to training programmes which will help businesses to become more efficient. We also fund the Skillseekers and Modern Apprenticeship programmes which offer young people in Orkney quality training in a wide range of careers.
