Company training
We can help with company training projects, and can provide advice as well as financial support. This type of training should normally be linked to the achievement of certified qualifications, particularly Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs), which will help us to ensure that Orkney has a competitive, skilled workforce. Any training should be linked to a company’s training plan. Small businesses, or self-employed people, may also be eligible for assistance where training will help them to add new skills to the business, to become more efficient. Within companies we can help to identify training needs, draw up action plans and source the relevant training. For individuals and small businesses, we can also help to identify relevant training courses. Orkney Aggregates Ltd Directors Roy Brown and John Harcus reaslised that their workforce had had little opportunity to undertake any training in the past, and, keen to foster a culture of health and safety awareness within the company, and to have a skilled and competent workforce, they embarked on an Investors in People programme and implemented a company-wide training programme which ranged from book-keeping for office staff to shot-firing for quarry staff. OE assisted with a first phase of qualifications which was completed early in 2003 and is now suppporting the second phase which involves seven candidates in management training. |
