With possibilities arising from the emerging oil facility decommissioning market and the new reserve exploration in the Atlantic Frontier, the oil and gas sector could continue to have a major impact on the economy of the Highlands and Islands for some time to come.

The area boasts three major oil reception terminals, oil pipeline assembly and fabrication facilities, so is in a prime position to exploit new opportunities as they arise.

The Highlands and Islands continues to contribute significantly to the extraction of oil and gas reserves and provides strong support infrastructure in terms of port and offshore supply services, specialist services such as computer-aided-design and logistics management.
