Hospitality Assured: digging it

Welcome to my kennel. Murdo is the name, tourism is the game.

I may be small and perfectly-formed, but I know a thing or two about making people happy. And that’s what tourism and hospitality is all about.

Paws for thought

Paws up who likes sticking to what they know.

Most likely everyone if they answer truthfully. For it’s human nature, so they tell me, to occupy a comfort zone, a place that is cosy and non-threatening. We ought to add to that list, familiar.

In my experience (see my biography details), the biggest hurdle to progress in most spheres of life is resistance to change. But in the tourism industry of the 21st century we patently cannot afford ourselves that luxury. To stay in front we must be flexible, adaptable and forward-looking.

Where Hospitality Assured fits into the changing tourism landscape is in its capacity to encourage businesses to be pro-active, not re-active, to what is happening in the tourism world. By challenging outlooks and conceptions, Hospitality Assured invites tourism businesses in the Highlands and Islands to immerse themselves in quality management and by so doing capture a bigger share of the market.

Only by benchmarking and setting goals can we in tourism achieve our maximum potential and rewards. Getting out of a comfort zone isn’t easy, but it is the only way to make progress in the long run. This, of course, is not to say we should in any way neglect our core market. We need our bread and butter in order to place the jam.

Talking of which, it’s time for a quick nap in front of the central heating boiler.
