Moray tyre business takes a firm grip

Ex-aircraft ground engineers John Shaw and Willie Boyle have been getting to grips with their new tyre fitting service since they left the RAF.

The two friends bought the appropriate equipment themselves along with a franchise called Etyres which provides them with a dedicated geographical sales area. In return for a fee, Etyres provided them with the training needed to supply and fit tyres to vehicles at a time and place convenient to customers.

John Shaw said: " The beauty of having a national company behind you like Etyres is that many of the sales leads are already generated for you. In Etyres case that is through the internet. Sales have been building up steadily in our first year making the business more and more viable as we go along".

After finishing at the RAF, John says that not having a pay packet at the end of each month was initially quite daunting.

"Starting your own business gives you a great deal of freedom and it's very liberating being your own boss. However you do need to do your homework and make sure the business you decide on has the best chance of success and that ultimately it makes you happy" he said.
