Receptionist handing out a piece of paper

Gaelic is a very polite language. So polite in fact, that there is no word for 'Please'! But you can use a little phrase that is the equivalent of 'please':

Mas e ur toil e! Please!
(More than one person, or an older person.)

Mas e do thoil e! Please!
(Only one person, or a younger person.)

You could use this in a situation such as asking for someone's name:

Ur n-ainm, mas e ur toil e. Your name, please.
(More than one person, or an older person.)

D' ainm, mas e do thoil e. Your name, please.
(Only one person, or a younger person.)
