Skills for individuals

What help is available?
We can advise you on training, help you to find the right course, or the right trainer to match your needs.

If you are unemployed or self-employed we can give you a grant to help you find work or expand your employment opportunities.

If you are starting up in business there is a local Business Essentials training course.

We can help you achieve a vocational qualification through Skillseekers such as engineering, hairdressing, mechanics, sport & recreation etc.

Career Advice can be provided through our colleagues in Careers Scotland.

If you have recently been made redundant, we can co-ordinate a range of services and funding to help you get a new job as soon as possible.

Who can apply?
Any unemployed or self-employed individual resident in the Lochaber area and any young person leaving school who is not going on to further or higher education.

How much will I get?
Our assistance is discretionary, but in recent years, the average grant has been 35%.  Funding for Skillseekers may be supported up to 100%.

How long does it take?
We aim to process your application as quickly as possible. However, the time taken often depends on the information you are able to provide us with. The sooner you give us the information, the quicker we can help you.
