Course Overview
This training course is designed to give delegates an understanding of some of the major features and functions within Microsoft Access. An introduction to database theory and practice is given, as well as hints and tips on good database design techniques. It has been designed for new, recent or intending users of Microsoft Access 2000 who have little or no existing database knowledge but who wish to gain a good understanding of the software. It is entirely 'hands on', so delegates will learn through practical experience of creating and modifying actual databases in the training room.
Course Description
The course content covers database concepts and terminology starting with the Access environment, planning and designing databases, getting help and closing a database. Delegates will be exploring tables and forms, examining queries and exploring reports. Create databases working in design view from scratch working with fields and records, changing the design of a table, adding and deleting records, finding and editing records and sorting and filtering records. Delegates will also learn how to manipulate the data by setting field properties, create validation rules to work out formulas and add in extra fields and text, also input masks to ensure your data looks exactly how you want it to look, regardless of who is inputting the information. Once your tables have been set up, to maximise potential we will move on to look at how to create queries and modify the results so that you can pull groups of information out of one or more tables, view records in different orders and find out specific information. You will also learn how to use wild cards and create relationships between tables. We then move on to briefly cover creating forms using the Form Wizard to input data and the Reports Wizard to output data.
It is essential that candidates have a good understanding of how the computer works. Attendance on the course Introduction to I. T. Skills course or a good working knowledge of this course’s content is a must.
