For more information you can download the relevant pdf document to the right of this page. Current invitations to tender 1. HICEC, in partnership with Cairngorm National Park, wish to commission a study of a number of community halls within the national park boundary. The study will examine the energy efficiency of the buildings and also consider the potential for using renewable energy systems within the halls. 2. The North Uist Partnership (NUP) was formed in 2001, following the Duthchas EU Life Project - a significant community consultation process which resulted in a published North Uist Area Strategy, to be used by the community to plan local sustainable development. The Strategy is based on information gathered from the local community and agency partners, and focuses on four key areas considered to be of greatest importance to this island community. One of these key areas is renewable energy. A public meeting was held in Lochmaddy on 7th November 2006, to ascertain public support for a feasibility study to identify and investigate the most viable renewable options for North Uist, including Berneray. This meeting supported the NUP and a steering group has been formed to progress the commission of a feasibility study. The feasibility study will cover the assessment of the technical potential and feasibility of on-shore wind energy developments and biomass on North Uist and Berneray and provide an analysis of the possible income generation. If you are interested in submitting a response please download the brief and respond directly to the NUP by the 7th April 2008. 3. HICEC is seeking tenders for the provision of technical evaluations of eight sites in the Western Isles for financially viable hydroelectric generation. There is growing interest in the contribution that hydroelectric generation can make to the communities in the Western Isles and four community groups have identified potential hydro sites in their areas they would like to explore further.
