The Highlands and Islands are serviced by comprehensive transport links both to and around the region allowing businesses to thrive.


  • The Highlands and Islands have impressive air links to the rest of Scotland, the UK and European destinations.
  • Services from Inverness operate to many of the UK's biggest cities including London, Manchester, Birmingham and Belfast. Services which operate to European destinations include Amsterdam, Zurich, Dussledorf and Bergen.


A Global Connected Region - Amsterdam Schipol is now the main hub access to the rest of the world from Inverness Airport.  The Amsterdam link from Inverness provides connections to over 150 destinations throughout Europe and worldwide, all from the same terminal building, and with baggage transferred automatically.

  • There is 9 major airports in the Highlands and Islands, with the additional option of a number of smaller airports and airstrips.

  • The Caledonian overnight sleeper service between London Euston and Inverness/Fort William operates six evenings per week.

  • Major trunk roads connect the Highlands and Islands to the rest of Scotland as well as the UK. A comprehensive bus service network operates throughout the Highlands and Islands region.
